Positive Training
Dogs should be taught with love, respect, and care.
A dog trainer's work begins in the first weeks of a puppy's life as your dog acquires the skills they need to become a happy, well-adjusted member of your family. Through positive reinforcement, I will train your dog in the following:
Through positive training, patience, repetition, consistency, and commitment, in a safe, enjoyable, and humane setting, I can help your dog to have a great life. A well-behaved dog is a happy dog. That means no more wild jumping, chewing on furniture, nipping, or excessive barking. It also means no more puddles in the wrong place; and, outdoors on the leash, your dog will no longer walk YOU!
Dog training begins in the early months of a puppy's life, but does it stop there once the basic rules have been learned? Not at all! As an experienced dog trainer, I can offer your dog so much more. Throughout your dog's life, well into old age, I can provide the exercise, and the mental and physical activities that will stimulate your pet's mind and body. Just as people of all ages need exercise for intellectual, emotional and physical health, so do dogs of all ages require regular stimulation to be happy and healthy. As a trainer, I provide this through teaching basic to advanced obedience, using games, tricks, physical exercise and relaxation massage with music. You'll be surprised at how much your dog can learn and how your pet becomes the greatest dog he can be.
Most often, it's simply because of a lack of socialization, insufficient exposure to people and other animals, inappropriate stimulation, or because they are not yet socialized to their particular environment. Other causes may be found in a history of inconsistent and confusing commands, harsh punishment and/or deprivation. A dog might behave aggressively as a result of fear, anxiety, defensive behavior or past abuse. Together, we'll review your dog's past experience in order to develop a unique course of training.
Once I've learned about your dog's history and assessed his personality, my work is to find what motivates your particular dog. We know food is an incredibly valuable resource but some dogs will respond to other motivators such as praise, an interesting toy, or a game of chase. Finding out which of these treats motivates your dog will lead to a successful training.
Dog training involves you, too, of course. You are the most important person in the life of your pet, and you want a relationship based on love, trust, and respect. My work as a dog trainer will strengthen the bond between you and your pet. I will be your personal trainer and coach to help you understand your dog's needs, and to provide safety, leadership, and a lot of fun.
As a dog trainer, my services include private lessons at your place, board-and-train, walk-and-train, and behavior modifications. I have the possibility of boarding your pet for weekend-long training sessions.
